President Speaks

SGS Changes

by Jack Jewart

Ah, yes. Light at end of tunnel can now be seen it it appears that it's NOT that of an oncoming train. SGS is not only alive, it well but gaining rapidly as various positions are being filled.

There's a sad note here in gaming. I've recently heard from Ferro Gianpietro in Italy & a gaming 'zine there (SIMULAZIONE) went under. Seems editor, whose actual name's listed as Robin Hood, absconded with club funds. Ferro mentioned that several gamers were trying to get zine started again. Still looking for an editor. Where have I heard THAT before?

We've another Volunteer: Andrew Webber (Canada) has accepted appointment to Regional Director of Region 11 (Overseas & Canada). As President, I'd point out that while this's actually a small Region in membership (less than 18) it's an important Region for SCS. It's a Region that allows SGS to use international in it's title.

We're also working on appointment of a MATCHING & RATING Chairman. Yes. SGS HAS a matching & rating system but previous Chairman resigned and dropped out of gaming when he moved from Kansas to Oregon. He delievered to me his previous records & I'll be forwarding them on to a NEW Matching & Rating Chairman. Once he's time to review system, we'll hopefully get it going again.

I've also heard from Gordon A. Davidson. I'll quote a paragraph from his letter:

Incidentally Bill Sariego should be commended far the effort he took to conduct his questionaire. I began writing down my answers but dithered too long about my choices that I didn't send them in on time. It was good to see some of my favorite games rate well i.e. The Civil War by VG, Caesar (I presume at Alesia) by AH, Civilization (by both AH and Microprose), and Flattop, AH. It was disappointing not to see SPQR by GMT anywhere, but maybe it's just too new.
