Circular Letter to the Colonels of Regiments announcing the Prince Regent's grant to Regimental Messes: War Office March 19 1811 His Royal Highness the Prince Regent, having been most graciously pleased, in the name and on behalf of his Majesty, to order, that an allowance in aid of the expences of the Regimental Mess, should be granted to every regiment, battalion or corps, when stationed in Great Britain; I have the honour to acquaint you therewith, and that the allowance will be apportioned, according to the establishment of the corps, and under the direction of the Commanding Officer, agreeably to the following scale, viz; For every regiment, or battalion, consisting of ten troops, or companies, and upwards, at the rate of 1250 per annum Ditto at the rate of 9 troops or companies £ 225
His Royal Highness having also been pleased to direct, that the above allowance should commence from the 25th December, 1809, the charge thereof may now be made in a Supplementary Accompt, under the head of Contingencies, for the time that the corps was actually serving in Great Britain, in the year 1810. The subsequent charges may, in future, be placed in the Regular Quarterly Accompts, under the same head.
