The basic colour was styled iron grey but was in fact a grey-blue shade of medium tone. A short-tailed coat was worn with collar, pointed straps and turnbacks were initially iron grey, the latter with blue grenades. By 1806-7 turnbacks became blue with red grenades, and red trefoil epaulettes were adopted. Waistcoats were iron grey and buff yellow breeches were worn with riding boots. Later, iron grey Hungarian breeches with scarlet trim were also worn, with scarlet trimmed Hungarian boots.

After 1809 red braid was added to the waistcoat. At the beginning of 1813 the coat became single breasted but the coat with closed lapels was adopted that summer, with iron grey cuff patches piped red and red epaulettes. In 1815 a single breasted jacket was worn.

Initially the bicom was worn, with scarlet pornpon, white ties and loop, but shakos with scarlet upper band, cords and pompon, brass eagle plate and chinscales were adopted by 1809. Officers had longtailed coats with silver trim, black belts with silver lace, and aiguillettes. Shabraques were iron grey with white or silver trim; the sabre-briquet was carried on a white belt and greatcoats were iron grey.
