NAPOLEONIC FAIR, 5 FEBRUARY 1995 In addition to the attractions visitors to the inaugural fair are aware of, the '95 Fair will include a competition for Napoleonic figures with prizes and awards. The classes are:
2. Any scale scratch built foot figure 3. Any scale painted commercial mounted figure. 4. Any scale scratch built mounted figure. There will be two wargames on display, an 1809 French v Austrian and a War of 1812. The Napoleonic Association will be carrying out two parades: at 12 noon by Napoleon's Grande Armee and at 2 p.m. by Wellington's Redcoats. Guard mounting will be by the 12th Light Dragoons and there will be military music by the Royal Artillery Band and the Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch. Personalities will be visiting throughout the day, including author's artists, and stars from the Sharpe television series (which means that I will have to take my sister in case Sean Bean is one of them). Forthcoming Events Starting in the New Year, we want to begin a couple of new regular or semiregular columns, as well as a new idea. As you may know, anyone who has an article published in AoN gets money behind the counter at Caliver Books, but starting from the next issue all articles published will be paid for. For more information, contact the usual suspects. We have also been talking to Mike Gilbert and Jean Lochet of EE&L about having a transatlantic input on their gaming and re-enactment scene. In return. we have nominated a victim to collate the same sort of information to travel westwards. Any input should either be sent to us at the usual address, or to Dave Hollins (for it is he). His first column has already gone to Jean, but we don't know when it will be published as EE&L tends to be one or two issues ahead. For this reason, be careful in submitting date sensitive information. This is going to be good way to keep ourselves abreast of the US scene, and vice-versa, so it is an exciting development. Finally, I would like to start a Dear Marj column for wargamers. As a regular visitor to shows around the SouthEast, one thing that I come across is dissatisfaction with published rule sets. These aren't always Napoleonic, but it is this period we will be concentrating on. If you have a rule that you are unhappy with, or which seems to be a bit suspect, write to us, with details of the rules and the writers address. First off we will ask the writer to explain why the rule exists and what he is trying to achieve with it, then having got a reply (?) we will publish it for the readership to comment. I do not want the queries to be on the lines of "How do you calculate skirmish casualties?", but more along the lines of "Why under these rules are French skirmishers 50% more effective than Russian Jager?" If you play amended versions of published rules because you are unhappy with certain aspects, we can take these up too. Lets see those gripes coming in people. Richard Partridge Re-enactment Units Recruiting Coy B, Tom Green Rifles, 4th Texas Volunteers: The 4th Texas Volunteers call upon ALL ABLE BODIED MEN to take up ARMS against the YANKEE INVASION of old Dixie. In return, you will be paid 11DOLLARS A MONTH!!, meet new friends and have a lot of fun in a new and exciting hobby. HOLD NOT YOUR MANHOOD IN SHAME; DEFEND THE SOUTH AND ENLIST NOW!! South:
