The Friends of the Public Records Office are currently engaged in a 'Project to Index British Army Soldiers' Documents', which will be of great interest to readers of this magazine. An example of their efforts to date is the following: John Weatherall, Aged 20, Farmer, Received 16 wounds at Waterloo, one of which deprived him of the use of his right hand. The scars of these wounds still remain. 2nd Life Guards. If you are interested in this project, the PRO may be contacted on 081 876 3444. These details were sent to me by Dave Hollins. Anyone using the facilities of the PRO will find available there a large selection of leaflets explaining how to use the facilities. These publications give guidance on the records available. Examples of such leaflets are; Operational Records of the Royal Navy, 1660-1914; Operational Records of the British Army, 1600-1914; and Nineteenth Century Public Health and Epidemics; to name but a few of the areas I have consulted. There are also leaflets explaining the use of all aspects of the PRO, including some useful sheets on copyright. The Dusty Archive
