This scenario begins at 2:00PM and ends after the 5:00PM game turn (ten game turns). The gaming table size should be 4x6 feet for Johnny Reb III, 15mm scale. Adjust as needed for other ground scales or rules sets. DEPLOYMENTSet up is as per the map. The CSA militia is in skirmish formation. One stand may be placed in the Helton farm buildings. The Rebel batteries are unlimbered. All units receive a +2 opening volley benefit unless they are in skirmish order, or are artillery that has moved immediately prior to firing. In the latter two cases, the bonus is not applicable. The commander figure representing Gen. Adams is placed in the town's main intersection in front of the Blue Bird Hotel. He is dismounted. Reinforcements come in as follows: 2:00PM USA - O'Leary's Brigade arrived at A in column; Carney with Jones' Brigade arrives as B in column. 2:00PM CSA -Miller's Brigade arrives at E in column with Gen. Douglas. West's Battery trails the infantry. 2:20PM USA - Stanton's Brigade arrives at C in column. 2:40PM CSA - Brown's Battery arrives (limbered) at D followed by Newcomer's Brigade TERRAINThe area around Archersville is gently rolling and fairly open, mostly farmland dotted with fences and orchards. Use OPEN for all non-road movement except orchards which are BROKEN terrain. All woods were generally fairly light in density, and were relatively free of underbrush. Roll for combat visibility in full inches. Woods do serve as cover for morale and rally die rolls. All main roads were lined on both sides with fencing, as was the Helton Wheatfield. Expending 3" of movement will destroy a fence. Subtract 1" movement for each stream that a unit crosses. Each hill / ridgeline / slope requires a +1" movement penalty to ascend for any unit. VICTORY CONDITIONSUnion Hold the Blue Bird Hotel for a victory (the Rebel military supplies were hidden in the hotel's basement and outbuildings). CSA Do not allow the Yankees to seize the supplies. Hold the center of the town with an non-routed unit.
