THE WARGAME
This small scenario begins at 6:00 AM and ends at 9:00 AM (nine game turns). Table size is 4x6 feet for Johnny Reb III, 15mm scale. Adjust as needed for other ground scales or rules sets. All units receive a +2 opening volley die roll modifier. DEPLOYMENT
Set up is as per the map. All Rebel infantry is in battle line formation. The Confederate battery is limbered. The elite Yankee 21st Delaware Volunteer Infantry is in skirmish formation. All other Union units (including the unlimbered artillery) are in disorder in camp, eating their morning meals. Morale is good and spirits are high on both sides. Yankee regiments and the gun battery must be activated in order to recover formation or move. Place an "FM" marker on units desiring to activate and then roll 1D6. General Black may assist one unit within 1" of his command figure. If the unit beats its Base Morale Point, it may reform and move. Otherwise, it stays put in camp, but the infantry may fire in disorder. The battery may not fire until activated and formed. Starting on game turn 2, the Union commander rolls 1D6. One a roll of 1, the cavalry enters at point A. If the cavalry fails to activate, roll again on game turn 3, and the cavalry may enter on a roll of 1 or 2. Similarly, re-roll each game turn if the cavalry has not yet entered the action. Anytime the die roll is less than the game turn number, the cavalry may finally enter. Assuming terrible die rolling, the cavalry will automatically enter on game turn 7. TERRAIN
The area around Camden in 1863 was gently rolling and fairly open, mostly farmland dotted with fences and orchards. Use BROKEN for all non-road movement. All woods were generally fairly light in density, and were relatively free of underbrush. Roll for combat visibility in full inches. Woods do serve as cover for morale and rally die rolls. All main roads were lined on both sides with fencing, as were the major fields Expending 3" of movement will destroy a fence. Subtract 1" movement for each stream that a unit crosses. Each hill / ridgeline / slope requires a +1" movement penalty to ascend for any unit. VICTORY CONDITIONS
Union - Hold the star point for a victory.
