Solothurns in the SCW

Part 2

By Michele Armellini

Part 1 of article

Having got the book back from the friend who had borrowed it, I can confirm what I wrote, save that (it's always a bad idea to quote from memory) Conforti wrote "...fucili anticarro Solothurn, con la bomba gi… in canna" (Solothurn anti-tank rifles, with the bomb already in the barrel), so they were more than one. The assault platoon is described as it moves from Torija towards the enemy. It was preceded by its own small motorcycle squad. The assault platoon men were armed with Remington carbines slung over their leather jackets, pistols at the belt, bags filled with hand-grenades, and daggers. Either Conforti is trying to impress his readers, or these boys were armed to the teeth, or both! The platoon included an LMG section. I hope this is of interest.
