1. 14th Annual SYWA Convention in 1997 will be held once again at the Holiday Inn Downtown in South Bend, Indiana. The tentative dates are Friday April 11th and Saturday April 12, 1997. This year's convention will begin at Noon on Friday so that we can take advantage of the fact that we are paying for the room for the entire day. Christopher Duffy will retum as our special guest to present a discussion on the Battle of Maxen and other topics. 2. Re-enactment of the Battle of Kolin (October 19-20, 1996) . Your editor is planning to stage a refight of this battle using 25mm figures and a 30: 1 figure ratio. Rules will be my new Alte Fritz rules for 1 8th Century Warfare, an easy to learn and uncomplicated set of rules. There will be room for approximately 15 players and the venue will be somewhere in the Chicago area. The plan is for people to meet on Friday evening for socializing and perhaps some preliminary game turns, then to game all day Saturday, with perhaps a banquet of some sorts on Saturday night. Accordingly, the game will probably be held at a local hotel to accomodate overnight stays. Stay tuned to this space for further details as they become available. 3. Seven Years War Association Internet Page. Thanks to member and "Man on Horseback" Bob French, the SYWA now has its own web site on the internet. The page features a listing of the table of contents of the most recent issue of the Journal, SYWA News Section, and links to other interesting web sitesthat relate to the SYW and 18th Century history. It is my intention to keep an update on the current status of the next issue of the Journal so that everyone will know when to expect their next copy in the mail. You can reach the web site at the following address: http://www.erinet.com/bpsywassoc.html You may also contact your editor via e-mail at the following address: JPURKY@aol.com . This will enable me to respond to members' questions in a more timely manner. So check out our web site for some links to some fascinating sites and tell me what you think about it via e-mail. 4. 1998 Christopher Duffy Tour of Silesia This is the big trip that we have all been waiting for since the first Duffy Tour in 1994. There is enough advance warning so that everyone can save up their money and plan for the vaction time. Obviously, there have been no dates set as yet, but the tentative plan is to arrive in Berlin on a Wednesday and drive to Breslau the next day, via Kunersdorf or Zorndorf. We will make establish our base in Breslau (Wroclaw, Poland) and make a number of day trips to such sites as Leuthen, I.iegnitz, Landshut, Glatz, Hohenfriedberg, Burkersdorf, the Bunzelwitz camp and perhaps the site of the Domstadtl ambush. Then we would return to Berlin on the second Saturday, via one of the two Russian battles not seen on the way out, and then return home on Sunday. Professor Duffy will start working on the logistics in 1997, as he visits some of the battlefields and scouts for prospective hotel accomodations. More details will be fonhcoming at next year's SYWA Convention in South Bend, IN. 5. Official SYWA Coffee Mugs Now Available! Those of you who were able to make it to this year's SYWA Convention can attest to the attractiveness (way cool!) of this hand crafled ceramic mug in Hunter Green, with an imbedded medalion featuring the likeness of Alte Fritz. The cost is $15.00 per mug plus $3.00 shipping and handling for domestic orders, or $5.00 shipping for Canada and the rest of the world. Proceeds from the sale of these mugs goes towards the funding of various Association activities such as convention expenses, new lights for the lobby at our convention site, scanners and translation soflware for various volunteers. So why not help support the SYWA activities by purchasing one of these handsome coffee mugs today? This item was such a success at the Convention that we will offer a new one each year. So look for Zeiten, Seydlitz, Marshall Daun, Marshall de Saxe and other 18th Century celebrities to pop up on future renditions of this wonderful item. Domestic orders are payable in cash or personal check, while international orders can be paid with US currency or the equivalent local paper currency or International Postal Money Order.
