Recently received was a copy of Hanau 1813, No7. in a series entitled Les Grandes Batailles de L'Histoire. This publication is of a similar format to the Osprey books, but contains many more colour plates than one would expect, replete with 80 printed pages of glorious FRENCH text!

Merde! And I say that because my understanding of French is only marginally ahead of my understanding of Serbo-Croat! Picking out the odd word from my long lapsed grammar school Franglais revealed that this could be an interesting read. If the Italians can put English text at the end of similar books why not the French! (Is this a subtle Delors plot to get us to speak the lingo?).

More importantly, the series is being expanded with two further titles, Wagram and Friedland and already contains one other existing Napoleonic title No2. Auerstadt. Highley recommended if you can read French. If you can get a French English dictionary then its still worth a look. If that fails the colour battle scenes are inspiring, as are the Tanconville prints.
