Bicorne 25mm Mameluks
and British Dragoons

Miniature Figures Review

by Dave Watkins

The following MAMELUKS have been recieved from Bicorne Miniatures.

    FNC33A Trooper at rest
    FNC34 Trooper charging
    FNC35 Officer
    FNC36 Standard Bearer
    FNC37 Trumpeter.

As usual these Bicorne offerings are of a high well cast standard. In fact I actually painted them up. Unusual for me since I haven't painted a 25mm figure since 1974. But I couldn't resist, all that you could want in a Mameluk is there! All the detail is well defined and easy to paint. All but FNC33A (thumbs down for this one ... personal thing.. it didn't work for me!) are well animated, I could visualise these guys hacking down the Madrid mob! You only buy Mameluks once and these are well worth a good look.

But it gets better..

British Light Dragoons.

    BNC19 Standard Bearer
    BNC20 Trumpeter
    BNC21 Officer
    BNC22 Trooper

The standard of these models is excellent, particularly the officer replete with pelisse billowing out behind him. Combined with H14 Light Horse charging the completed figure is a joy to behold. I'm not saying that these are the best figures in the world, but they work. You can `feel' the motion as they recklessly charge across the Spanish plains...and into a ditch(!). The officer will work nicely with a RHA battery or as an aide de camp. The undercuts have to be seen to be believed. Essential purchases for any 25mm Gamer.

Last out of the bag...and the best.

FNC37A Elite Co. Hussar Charging.

Take everything that I have written above and apply it to this figure. This figure has been beautifully designed and must have stretched the abilities of the mould maker. If I said that there is a clean cast gap between the end of the Colpack cords and the neck, or that the Pelisse is modelled around the left arm and is away from the body so that the Dolman lace is actually visible and paintable, would you be impressed? Well you should be, visually stunning and superb. (Can I have my money now Brian?). Seriously though, a compulsory purchase for any French Hussar commander.
