Revolution 3rd - 4th July

Marking the anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence this event looks at the story of the British Army in North America in the years leading up to the American Revolution and beyond.

Specialist presentations will trace the conflicts fought on American soil from the Seven Years War to the battle for New Orleans that effectively ended the War of 1812. Visitors can meet soldiers - played by historical interpreters - from both sides of the conflict, talk to them about their experiences, and hear their views of their opponents. Combined with family activities and presentations the weekend will explode some of the common misconceptions about the history of the British in America.

The museum has a varied programme of Lunchtime Lectures throughout the year, covering all periods of history. One that will be of interest to readers is How not to fight a battle: Cavalry at Waterloo by David Kenyon. This takes place at 1.00pm on 17th June.
