In Issue 72, I wrote a lament for the Napoleonic Fair. Shortly after writing this, news arrived that the Fair will continue! This obviously means that the Good Lord reads First Empire and answers our prayers! However, this is the information submitted by the new owners of the event. David Smith of E W Services is delighted to be able to announce that he has acquired The International Napoleonic Fair from Lionel Leventhal of Greenhill Books, which means that there will be an 11th INF in 2004. The Fair will continue in very much the same format as Lionel established over the past 10 years, with Trade Stands, War Games, and Lectures. There are a few changes, though, and these see the Fair move to St Albans and to Sunday April 4th. The new venue is the impressive Alban Arena, right in the city centre, adjacent to a multi-storey car park, which is free on Sundays. You can check out the details of the venue on www.alban-arena.co.uk complete with maps. St Albans is just to the North of London, convenient for the M25, M1, M10 and A1(M), making it within easy reach of most of the country as well as readily accessible from all the airports and ports for foreign visitors. There will be space for 100 tables for Traders, a huge stage area for War Games, and Lectures can take place in the Circle Foyer. There is a separate Lower Foyer for refreshments, and two Bars. Alban Arena stages all sort of good quality events, and will provide the ideal venue for the Napoleonic Fair. The move away from the high prices of central London mean that stand prices and admission charges can be reduced, which will help make the International Napoleonic Fair even more accessible for the general public. In addition, David is giving free recruitment stands to any Napoleonic Era Re-enactment Group who would like to attend. So far, the response from Traders and Re-enactors has been extremely positive. The International Napoleonic Fair fits very well into E W Services other portfolio of events, which include the National Living History Fayre and the National Militaria Fair, both staged at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre; and Antiques Fairs at a variety of venues, including a specialist Art Deco Fair at the Alban Arena. Opening times: 10.00am - 4.00pm Admission: £3.50 Trade Stands from £75 Napoleonic News Desk Back to Table of Contents -- First Empire # 73 Back to First Empire List of Issues Back to MagWeb Master Magazine List © Copyright 2003 by First Empire.
