Having an interest in the War of 1812, one of the first books on this subject that I bought was The British at the Gates: The New Orleans Campaign in the War of 1812 by Robin Reilly, first published in 1974. July sees the republication of this work with a new Foreword by Donald Graves (hardback, £16.99).

This is the full story of the final British campaign of the War of 1812 describing in full the events of 1814, including the destruction of Washington and culminating in the Battle of New Orleans.

Harry Turner is the author of Against All Hazards: Poems of the Peninsular War published by Spellmount, and he has now turned his attention to the Royal Navy. With the Utmost Possible Despatch: Poems of Nelson's Navy contains twenty-three modern epic poems of Nelson's Navy, written in a robust, traditional style with a rhythm and pace that captures the atmosphere of that dramatic century when Britannia truly ruled the waves. This book will be published in September, hardback, price £15.00.
