The Royal Armouries Museum at Fort Nelson has a varied programme of events planned for the coming season. These events cover all periods of history and include some that will be of particular interest to readers of this magazine. Sunday 28th April & Sunday 8th September Wellington's Warriors: Napoleonic Wars will present a display of Napoleonic gunners firing an original British field gun plus musket drill. Fort Nelson is a wonderfully restored Victorian Fort overlooking Portsmouth Harbour and the Meon Valley. Built in the 1860s to deter French invasion, with its magnificent grass ramparts, views and secret tunnels, it stands as unique example of Victorian architecture. Today the Fort houses the Royal Armouries collection of artillery and historic cannon, part of the National Museum of Anns and Armour. The collection of guns on display is very impressive and includes a number of Napoleonic period pieces, both British and French. It now boasts free entry for certain events.
