Napoleonic Events at Fort Nelson

by Paul Chamberlain

The Royal Armouries, Britain's oldest national museum, originally established in the Tower of London, now occupies Fort Nelson displaying one of the most varied collections of artillery in Europe. Imaginative scenes and lively events tell the story of artillery from its earliest days with thirteen galleries full of carefully restored exhibits dating from the 1450s. There are frequent guided tours with specially trained guides bringing the collections to life. The Fort has a varied programme of activities throughout the year, many of which have featured in the past such Napoleonic re-enactors such as the Association Britannique de la Garde Impérial, the 9éme Demi-Brigade d'Infanterie Légère, and the 95th Rifles Regiment of Foot Living History Society. There is a Napoleonic event planned for 6th August at which may be seen British Artillery of the Napoleonic Wars in action.
