The Endeavour Arrives
in Britain

The Endeavour is a magnificent replica of Captain James Cook's ship, H.M. Bark Endeavour, which set sail to Australia on 26 August 1768 on a voyage of exploration and scientific investigation. Cook's courageous voyage was a major step for Britain and the world by providing detailed new information for geography, navigation, natural science and astronomy. Endeavour opened up the Pacific; was the first ship to determine its longitude accurately at sea; and the first to make a long voyage without losing a single man to scurvy.

The Endeavour replica sailed from Australia in October 1996, and will arrive in Greenwich, London on 25 March 1997. The ship will then start a 15 port tour around the UK, leaving for the USA in mid-October 1997. The ship will be open to the public at each port, thus allowing people to see the inside of an 18th century vessel. For full details of the ship's itinerary and admission, contact Eleanor Muirhead on 01925 752078 or Christine Pott on 0181 467 4788.
