As a result of visiting Britain I have come to realise how badly foreign words are pronounced, and it is with this in mind that I have written this article in collaboration with English wargamer Ian Barstow who has kindly phonetically translated my words into a form which I hope will be of benefit. The nature of the phonetics is not a strictly Oxford English one, but rather has been done to be user friendly to the ordinary wargamer. My initial item is based on the Russian generals of brigade rank and above who served in the 1813 campaign culminating in the battle of Leipzig. The lists have been taken from a commonly available book in Britain; namely the Ebb and Flow of Battle 1813 module. I must stress that I am referring to the English spelling as taken from this book, be it correct or not, in order for the reader to have a direct guideline.
The names are printed in a tabular form with their appearance in the book first, then the correct phonetic pronunciation and finally their command for a cross reference. Where a stress is applicable in the name I have marked it in bold print.
