Second Nordlingen
Today Diego, Riccardo, Arturo and I had a full day game of the late Thirty Years War. We played the Senod Battle of Nordlingen in 25mm, using the full order of Battle by Guthrie.
Here some photos of the battle.
We had a great day playing this big battle. It did not go as in the real battle, since the strong Hessian Wing attacked on the right of the French line, in support of the French right wing. The fight on that side of the battlefield dragged very long and the Hessians di not manage to come to grips with the imperials before the arrival of the night.
In the center, the fortified village fell rather easily to the assaulting enfant perdus, mainly ehm due to a misinterpretation of the halving of dice due to cover and skirmish that should have been twice in this particular case, dividing by four and rounding up.
The left wing of the French army clashed with a mixed infantry and cavalry force. This wing was weaker than the imperial one and was defeated.
The battle ended with the main French infantry line scattered to cover the undefended left flank and the center. The Imperial left wing still holding good, with multiple cavalry lines failing to attack multiple times.
In the centre the imperial stood the ground quite easily.
Overall the battle was undecided, with few casualties mainly done to the two cavalry wings of both sides.
Great joy overall in seeing my old friends and spending almost a full day throwing dice and laughing to the referee failing to remember the otherwise excellent ruleset.
