Musket Miniatures 22mm ACW Figures

We received some 22mm ACW figures for our review from James McCarron of Musket Miniatures. The sample figures included six different infantry poses and one artillery piece. These foot figures measured 22mm from the top of the base to the top of the figure's head. The figures are thinner than the average figures produced today, and have average detail and animation. The samples did contain an interesting drummer figures. The drummer was wearily toting his drum on his back. The artillery piece was a well detailed 12 pound Napoleon.

Two things differentiate these figures from their competitors. First, the scale is unique. Second, these figures are made of a lead-free pewter. Consequently, this figure line has overcome the safety concems about figures containing lead.

Musket Miniatures has taken over production of the 22mm ACW figure line previously produced by Stone Mountain. Therefore, Musket Miniatures has an extensive 22mm ACW line. You may obtain their catalogue by sending $2.00 to Musket Miniatures, P.O. Box 335575, Denver, Colorado, 80283.

Yucca Miniatures 15 mm ACW Figures

We received figures for review from John Benignus of Commissary Games and Hobbies. John submined 3 packs of Yucca Miniatures 15mm ACW figures, each pack had a price of $6.50. One pack contained 24 identical flgures of Confederate infantry advancing, andone peck contained the carriages, wheels and barrels for five 6-pound smoothbores. The foot figures measured 17mm from the top of the base to the top of the figure's head. They were of average width or bulk for today's 15mm figures, and were reasonably detailed and animated. These figures are compatible with 15mm figures produced by Stone Mountain and some Minifigs. The artillery contained some flash but not an excessive amount. The artillery was reasonably well detailed. (I wish I saw more 6 pound smoothbores on table tops, as they were more common in the ACW than on table tops.)

Yucca Miniatures has created a niche in ACW 15mm figures by producing naval and siege guns. As these samples show, they also produce infantry and standard artillery.

Minnesota Regimental Colours

Since the publication of my article on the Minnesota Regimental Colours at least one error in my research has come to light. The Time-Life Book, Echoes of Glory, Arms and Equipment of the Union provides a photograph and a description of the National Colours of 2nd Minnesota Wantry. According to this source the canton of this flag was in fact light blue, not white as I claimed, and the stars were silver, having now tarnished to blue-black. As well it should be pointed out that the flags reproduced in the article are approximately 1/46th scale and not 1/30 scale as stated.
