For those ACW gamers looking for a unique, innovative set of rules with emphasis on uncertainty and "Fog of War", this rule set may be what you have been waiting for. REBEL YELL -creates uncertainty for its players by limiting their knowledge of what is taking place on the battlefield. Specifically, this is an umpired game in which movement, morale, and combat results are variably resolved by the umpire and then communicated to the players.

Consequently, the umpire must be:

    a) a person knowledgeable with the rules;
    b) a person able to communicate clearly with the players; and
    c) a peopleperson who can diplomatically give players either good or bad news.

In addition to the umpire these rules create uncertainty by limiting the players knowledge of the exact quality of his troops, buy making move distances somewhat variable, and by making terrain effects somewhat variable. Consequently, this is not a set of rules for people who want to play a chess-like game with much certainly and with predictable results. This clearly is not a "beer and pretzels" game that takes no advance preparation.

This game is designed for those who wish to experience the uncertainty of brigade and regimental command in the American Civil war, and who want to understand why reasonably intelligent commanders do quite unintelligent things due to the "Fog of War".

REBEL YELL! is available from Games Innovation, 611 Havencrest, Coppell, Texas, 75019. The cost is $19.95 post paid.
