This is probably the strangest Zouave sent out in our five year existence only "two" articles in the whole thing! I have a feeling that I might get some hate mail on this one, along with some praise. My guess is that readers will either love the issue or hate it. In either event, Todd Fisher's lengthy analysis on rating every single Civil War general is a research gem that should become a collector's item in the future. Having done research myself, I can truly appreciate how much time was spent on this project (Todd's been mentioning it to me for a couple of years now), and how valuable the entire piece can be to garners who are either setting up scenarios or campaigns. Added to this is Mark Piper's article on the use of pontoon bridges, something that most garners have probably neglected to think about. There were no scenarios or flag illustrations in this issue as subscribers might have expected. Such will be forthcoming in the next issue. At least we are catching back up to our time frame in getting our magazine out. However, sadly, I must confess to being backlogged in answering mail. I am writing this on June 28th and, am only now, getting to mail received in February and March. While many of you might think that a lynching party would be in order, I would like to point out that I am averaging over 80 pieces of mail requiring answers each month. Add to that some 25 phone calls a month (many getting my answering machine and asking for me to return the calls long distance) and you have the makings of a logjam! I'm sure that I'll catch up eventually. The existence of this magazine is still very much in doubt. I have been editor, mailroom boy, collator, stapler, and complaint department for five years now more than enough time to get the ACW Society and its magazine going. I am tired now and have family and business matters that make it quite hard to keep everything going. I am hoping that a responsible person with a publishing backround would be willing to take over the Society and its activities rather than to see everything simply shut down. Startup date for the next dictator would be January 1, 1992. Does anybody have an interest? The remaining two issues for this year will be coming out fairly rapid fire so that we can get caught up. I am hoping to send out the last issue of the year in early November so as to beat the majority of the holiday mail rush but no promises! Thanks for being patient with me as regards the lateness of these past issues.
