OTHER MAGAZINES THAT MAY INTEREST CIVIL WAR GAMERS Midwest Wargamer's Association Newsletter (MWAN) is possibly the finest publication of its kind in the hobby. With over a hundred pages per issue, it always seems to have several nice articles on the American Civil War. Of course, if you game in other periods also, this magazine becomes even more important to receive! The current subscription cost is $20 annually. Like MWAN, The Dispatch covers any number of gaming periods, always having finely written articles about our Civil War in each issue that I've seen to date. The subscription cost for 4 issues is $20 per year. For more info, send inquiries to: Historical Miniatures Association, P.O. Box 4582, Austin, TX 78765 USA. AN OPEN LETTER TO FIGURE MANUFACTURERS Dear Sirs: I realize that the miniature gaming industry is not a huge entity with a financial empire to gain from the sale of miniature castings. I also understand that there seems to be no coordination between manufacturers, especially since this is a "dog eat dog" type of business. However, I feel compelled to stand up as a wargamer and ask all of you some questions. Why is it that most of you can't read a ruler? I see figures advertised as '15mm and order them, expecting that they will fit in with my other '15mm". Instead, I seem to be stuck trying to figure out how to use castings that are as much as 5mm off from each other, without looking like I have Tom Thumb and Andre the Giant in the same regiment. There are so many beautiful castings from such varied companies as Stone Mountain, Essex, Freikorps, Old Glory, Battle Honors, and Minifigs. Why can't all of you manufacturers get together to make a standard sized figure so that I can use figures from each of you in the same units? 15mm does not mean 18mm does it? Please "get it together" for the sake of all of us who love this hobby and want the best of what each of you has to offer!
