Fresh from a well deserved vacation that included a trip to Gettysburg, I feel revitalized and ever more interested in the war between North and South. The town of Gettysburg and its battlefield was a religious experience, almost like a Moslem making his obligatory trip to Mecca! Reading about a battle, looking at pictures, and even collecting relics seem empty without the personal touch of having tread upon the very ground where so much blood was spilled. I can't endorse a journey to the various battlefields and museums enough to my fellow garners your sense of what is happening on the wartable will certainly take on a more intense meaning after such experiences. I would like to inform our members about a cosmetic accounting change. Because we have been receiving checks made out to various names - "The Zouave", "ACW Society", "Shenandoah", "Advance The Colors", and even some made out to me personally, we have consolidated everything under one corporation, now known as IHP, Incorporated. The bank was getting too confused, not to mention our accounting system and accountant. In the future, please make all checks payable to "IHP, Inc.", no matter what the product is. Simply note at the bottom of the check what it is that you are ordering. This issue contains one of those rare articles that come along only once every year or so. Wayne Teny's "Build And Deploy A Miniature Observation Balloon" is sure to give all of you a worthwhile construction project for that extra visual appeal on the table. We hope to carry more such helpful items in future issues. Later in this magazine you will see the results of our reader survey. As stated many times in the past by myself, we want to know what readers would like to see in The Zouave. As a result of your input, there will be more articles on uniform information, painting guides for same, and some unusual areas of the war for the more esoteric among you. The next issue will be a knockout if that is the kind of information you seek! We can still use many articles on various subjects and ask that you work hard to keep up the quality of our magazine my writing same. Don't keep waiting for someone else to do the work, because they may be waiting for you!
