Stone Mountain Miniatures
Camp Scene Pack

Review

Stone Mountain Miniatures has just released a camp scene pack that should evoke a lot of interest from our members. Listed in their catalog as item number ACW98, this pack from Colorado based Stone Mountain contains six of the Hovel tents, a camp stove, flagpole, six stacks of rifles, three campfires, a complete supply wagon, extra supplies (the review pack had six backpacks, three chests, four drums, and four sacks), a hitchrack with four horses, four dogs, and an assortment of twenty soldiers in various camp-work poses. These poses, in the review pack, included two men carrying a large chest, three different soldiers sitting on various chests, a soldier sitting on a barrel smoking a pipe or cigar, two different soldiers sitting on tree stumps, three soldiers carrying firewood, two different castings moving barrels, a figure lifting a sack, a standing officer eating something, a standing officer drinking from a bottle, an enlisted man kneeling and drinking from what looks to be a coffee cup, a standing enlisted man eating, an enlisted man carrying some kind of tube, and an officer of the day figure - an impressive array of different ways to make a camp scene look authentic.

It's hard to find fault with this grouping. First of all, there is nothing else to compare it to, a sign of innovative thinking, although a financially risky proposition in that most garners are not likely to buy the set in the same quantities as they spend money on combatant figures. Certainly, everything is there to make a camp scene for that early morning attack scenario that previously would have lacked the ability to show you sneaking in on the enemy while they were relaxing.

The castings themselves are quite nice, durable, are in realistic poses, and are sized very well. The Hovels tents are also nicely done, some having various boxes or barrels attached to them. The camp scene pack is especially recommended to 1 5mm garners who will be playing the new 1:1 scale Advance The Colors rules. In fact, at $28 for the whole thing, it's hard to envision not having this camp set!

The camp set pack can be ordered directly from Stone Mountain. You might just send for their entire 40 page catalog, which is chock full of castings, buildings, supplies, rules sets, paints, and terrain - the cost, $3. To order, write to Stone Mountain Miniatures I P.O. Box 594, Dept. Z, Broornfield, Colorado 80038 / USA.

This particular set, and all Stone Mountain ACW castings are highly recommended for purchase, especially if you also use compatible sized figures such as Freikorps, Minifigs, or Empire.
