Last Flag of the 24th Michigan (Iron Brigade) The original flag presented to the 24th Michigan had been badly shot up, so friends of this unit in Detroit raised money to have a new flag made by Tiffany & Co in New York, which was presented to the regiment on April 27, 1864. Made of sky blue silk, the new colors were honorably bourne through several more engagements before the regiment mestered out. The old flag, being torn to pieces, was distributed among the men.
