FREIKORPS 15 TO ADD TO ACW LINE

Out of the depths of Northern Ireland comes word, via Cameron Robinson, that Freikorps 15 has plans to add several castings to their already extensive ACW line of 15mm figures. No date was set for their release, but since I received a photo of one of the new castings, the editor must assume that 1990 is a better than average guess. The new castings include:

Home Guard Militia; Mississippi State Infantry; Marines in dress uniform; 3rd/Sth New Hampshire; Dismounted Cavalry in kepi or slouch hat; Infantry in havlock; Galloping Artillery Team; and a personality figure, Colonel Collis at Antietam (mounted).

Based on the finely detailed figures that have already been produced by this company, the editor and other ACW gainers eagerly look forward to the new releases. North American members can contact the U.S. distributor, Greg Novak, at Ulster Imports, Box 1748, Champaign, Illinois 61820.

ADVANCE THE COLORS TO BE DELAYED

The editor, who also happens to be the author of the soon to be released rules set, ADVANCE THE COLORS, needs to advise those who have sent in their pre-publication orders of a printing delay.

Originally envisioned as a 1:1 regimental level rules set, many members wrote in suggesting that the rules also allow for true skirmish gaming with minimal numbers of castings. Bill Koff, editor of the fine boardgaming magazine, VOLUNTEERS, wrote the following:

For instance, how about a Federal cavalry company reconnoitering a Georgia plantation, being ambushed by a Home Guard unit and the mistress of the house, whom the Yankees belatedly discover has been hiding a LeMat revolver in her dress? Lots of other possibilities come to mind -Mosby, trains, pickets, scouts, spies, sutlers, you name it!"

Obviously, in order to incorporate this into the rules, a revision must be written and playtested. In fairness to those who have already sent in a check and were expecting the rules to be available in January, the ACW Society is offering a full refund upon request. We hope to have the finished sent out in either late March or early April, but if you don't want to wait, we certainly understand a cheerfully refund your money. Hope you'll be us. By the way, I wonder if Bill knew about Freikorps' planned release of the Home Guard casting mentioning his thoughts about the plantation ambush? Will Freikorps now make a casting, along with sutlers and spies?
