Colonel Stephen Thomas
8th Vermont Infantry
Colonel Thomas was with the 8th Vermont, either as regimental or brigade commander, from its enlistment to the final muster out in 1865. He inspired the men to uncommon valor at each battle, winning the Congressional Medal of Honor at Cedar Creek for his gallantry on that field. This image appears courtesy of the editor's collection.
