Dear Brian, I would like to lend my support for the development of a rules set for company level ACW action. Your excellent narrative in Vol. III, #2, of THE ZOUAVE was stirring and re-kindled my interest in individual figure, 1:1 conflicts. I have long been interested in reproducing such actions in the Napoleonic era and can now see myself leading the 20th Maine down the slopes against Hood's Texans! Thanks again for your efforts at developing the hobby and THE ZOUAVE. Dear Sir, Find enclosed payment for one year's subscription to your wonderful magazine. A dedicated magazine for ACW has been long coming! Well done! As to rules, a similar variety are played here: JR2, SNB, OTR, etc. OTR is by far the most popular mainly as it allows you to easily field large sized units on the tabletop. From reading your previous issues, many of the suggestions for improving other ACW rules are already contained in OTR. Brigading regiments, limited intelligence on troop morale, and varying general qualities are but a few examples. As to the gripes about OTR, you can't please everyone. I must admit the 0Th rule on rebuilding units is puzzling. Finally, congratulations and best for the future. Dear Editor, Your idea for a skirmish level rule set is a good one. I collect regimental histories along with my interest in miniatures, and have often wondered why Americans do not seem to appreciate the qualities of the various units. Perhaps you can devote some space each issue to a particular regiment, complete with photos to let us know how their uniforms looked. It would also be nice if your magazine could run some feature articles on the generals since we can get very little information here. I know that this will appeal to your European readers. When will the new rules be ready? Editor's Reply: It's amazing how much mail we get from overseas. We beat you to it -- note the feature on the 8th Vermont in this issue! Because of the interest expressed in the proposed skirmish rules, we will try to do this on a frequent basis, hopefully covering some of the lesser known units that did some good fighting. Out of personal curiosity, why are so many Europeans fascinated by our War Between the States? As regards the new rules, please note the announcement in this issue.
