Brig. Gen. Joseph H. Lewis. Commissioned Col. 4th KY in Sep 1861, becoming commander of the 1st KY (Orphan) Brigade at Chickcamauga after the death of Gen. Helm. Promoted to Brig. Gen. after many commendations on Sep 30, 1863, and led the brigade through Sherman's march to the sea.
