Col. Frank C. Armstrong, 3rd LA. He is the only general known to have served on both sides during the ACW, having been withthe Union army at First Manassas. Having resigned from the Federal Army in August 1861, Armstrong served on the staffs of Generals McIntosh and McCulloch, being only a few feet away when the latter was killed at Pea Ridge. Subsequently promoted to Colonel of the 3rd LA, he was soon made commander of the cavalry under Sterling Price. thereafter, Armstrong served under FOrrest, Wheeler, SD Lee, and Chalmers, becomeing one of Forrest's most dependable leaders.
