Disappointments, but I'll Live

by Bill Brierton

Well as all of you know, I had a contest to see who could recruit new subscribers, artists, and writers. Only one person managed to find six new subscribers and one new writer. I as the editor did manage to find a new artist, and managed to "encourage" a rather quiet writer to submit another piece for this issue. As for subscribers well I failed miserably. I don't know if it's my approach, or that White Knight is not a true professional magazine, that contributed to some inquiries to reconsider. (SIGH!)

I'm trying not to be too discouraged, I would like to make White Knight more of a professional gaming magazine and perhaps "pay" folks for their work. But until, if and when, that happens the only payment I can offer is my thanks and a couple free issues of White Knight. It may not seem like much but it's the best I can offer.

Why the rambling on??? One of the news items I read, and have included, mentions the closure of an independent company folding because of financial and distributor problems. White Knight is distributed by Unicorn Pegasus. Financial backing started from a limited fund by me the editor, and I'm still running a bit in the red. Will White Knight go under, I don't think so. This publication has only been around since 96. So while it hasn't taken off like a rocket but more like a heavily burdened wagon with a tired horse, I think it will be around for another year.

While I may be disappointed at the contest results, I do appreciate the effort that was put forth. And I will probably have another contest in the not so distant future. Maybe, things will improve a second time. The current contest has been a learning experience and it has given me some ideas about the next one. No, I won't mention them now, mainly because they are just ideas and I may not use all of them.

Ok, one question and hopefully I get a better response than the contest. What, if anything can I do to make White Knight better, more noticed, and more interesting. Ok that's three questions but I'd rather ask them all at once then have three separate questions. No there's no reward for making a suggestion. Come on folks, give me your ideas. Hey you never know when an idea of yours just may pay off especially for you.
