The Morrow Project

Timeline

by Bill Brierton

1962 - Spring

Bruce Edward Morrow, a man of unknown origin, emerges from the ranks of American industnalists as the number one producer of United States' military hardware. Morrow founds Morrow industries, and begins to amass his fortune.

1964 - Fall

Morrow realizing that nuclear war was inevitable, assembles the nations leading industrialists into an organization named The Council of Tomorrow. The outcome of this meeting is the concept of the Morrow Project.

1964 -1965 - Winter

US. Army Special Forces soldiers begin "advisory" role in the Republic of South Vietnam. Morrow Industries begins increased production of wartime goods. This provides an opportunity for supplies to be manufactured for The Morrow Project.

1967 - Summer

First experiments in cryogenic freezing prove successful. An attempt will be made to freeze a human and revive him later in the year.

1967 - Fall

Bruce Edward Morrow becomes the first man in history to be cryogenically frozen and revived. Morrow insisted that the device be tested on himself rather then risk anybody else's life. This technological breakthrough allows the Project to enter the next phase.

1968 - Spring

First set of Morrow Project volunteers frozen. Recruiting efforts are stepped-up as soldiers returning from Vietnam fall on hard times.

1975- Summer

Construction begins on Prime Base. The location is kept secret to all personnel except those ultimately destined to staff the facility. Morrow Industries continues to produce large amounts of military hardware even though the demand has been greatly reduced due to the withdrawal from Vietnam. More teams of volunteers continue to be trained and frozen during this time.

1981 - Spring

Morrow industries increases production of military hardware as well as civilian use items due to the incredible increase in demand as a result of the Reagan presidency. Teams begin training with newer equipment, and the Council begins to think about refitting earlier frozen teams.

1982 - Fall

The United States government obtains a small amount of information about the Morrow Project.

1983 - New Year's Day

Bruce Edward Morrow disappears without a trace except for a letter left in his office stating that he will return in three years. The other members of the Council of Tomorrow continue the work of the Project in his absence.

1986 - Spring

Morrow returns, but will not discuss where (or when) he was. He retums bearing two devices. One he claims is a self-contained cold fusion power reactor. The other is a man portable LASER rifle. Morrow Industries scientists begin to research the technology of these two items.

1986 - Fall

The analysis of the items found by Morrow yields some startling results. The equipment was made with Morrow Industries technology. This is evident is some of the microchips used in the devices. With this discovery, Morrow Industries begins to mass produce these items tor Project use.

1987 - Spring

Morrow and the Council determine that the equipment possessed by their already frozen teams is obsolete, and begins a refit operation of those teams. Teams will receive fusion powered vehicles, newer weapons, and in some cases LASER weaponry. This operation will be undertaken without waking the teams. Manuals are left for all new equipment so team members will be able to operate it upon waking.

1989- Fall

The Berlin Wall that stood for almost a generation came down on November 9, 1989. With this event the Council began to think that the Project might not be necessary, and the teams may be awakened in the year 2000 as promised. Although there was optimism, Morrow convinced them that the Project's mission would unfortunately still be needed. Nobody knew why, but they all believed him.

1990- Summer

Work continues on Prime Base although most base personnel are already in place.

1991 - Summer

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics no longer exists. In August, Communist hard liners attempted a coup de etat against the government of Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev. Out of this tragedy Boris Yeltsin rose to power and effectively dissolved the USSR. The former Soviet republics are now held together in a loose collective known as the Commonwealth of Independent States. This development adds even more optimism to the Council's attitude, but again Morrow convinces them that tragedy will still befall the world.

1993 - Fall

Construction on Prime Base is finally completed. The Base is now totally operational, and has been sealed with all personnel inside. Teams continue to be trained and frozen

1996 - 1997 - Winter

Morrow and the Council of Tomorrow decide to upgrade team equipment. Teams will receive new computers, some new vehicles, and some new aircraft.

1998- Fall

Last Morrow Project teams are frozen and placed in their Bolt Holes.
