Lawrence, KS - Event Horizon Productions Inc., makers of the popular Hong Kong Action Theatre! Role-playing game, announced that it had formally severed ties to Archon Gaming Inc., the Chicago are publisher of Noir: The Film Noir Role-Playing Game. The two firms had announced at the 1998 GAMA Trade Show that a letter of intent for Archon to purchase Event Horizon had been jointly signed by both companies. However, after months of negotiation, the two sides were unable to agree on mutually satisfactory terms. After representing itself independently of Archon at the 1998 Gen Con Game Fair, Even Horizon began development of its Sword of the Middle Kingdom role-playing game line without assistance from AGI. Talks between the two companies stalled in early August, and EHP formally severed ties in November. "It's truly unfortunate," EHP President John R. Phythyon, Jr. said. "The deal could have been very good for both companies and for the industry as a whole. But we're moving forward. We're looking forward to the release of the Swords of the Middle Kingdom and Heaven & Earth lines in the near future. We're hoping for a very good year in 1999. Phythyon added that questions concerning the break as well as EHP's publishing schedule should be directed to him at the Event Horizon office at 785-331-2347. Archon officials were unavailable for comment.
