Editorial

Redesign

by Donald Featherstone

It never fails to worry me when I view the large backlog of most worthwhile articles and features that I have to review and then reluctantly put away for yet another month when I'm putting together the Newsletter for yet another issue, But there is only a limited amount of space and there are certain regular features that have to go in each month -- hence articles have to fill in the remaining space.

In an effort to gain more vital space, I have slightly redesigned the Newsletter by cutting out the 'Contents' page and incorporating the title-heading and Editorial on the one page.

Postage costs have recently risen and the Newsletter weighs just about enough to got by without a prohibitive addition in cost. To try and gain a little more space I have this month gone back to the old wrappers instead of using envelopes -- again to save weight.

The Military Festival in London and the recent BMSS Waterloo Convention have proved that it is possible to hold most successful functions for wargamers, providing some guiding, spirit (or spirits) organises and that the Trade supports the venture. Many model soldier firms and kindred organisations did just this both at Chelsea and at the Rembrandt Hotel -- and then we must not forget that Marcus Hinton' finances, each year, a London WarGamers Convention. It is sound economics for the Trade to realise that to support wargaming is worthwhile; it would be even better if they also realised that some sort of support for this magazine would enable it to represent even more proudly the wargamers of this country. A scheme is in hand to evolve some reasonable Trade support to make this Newsletter a well produced and comprehensive affair -- more about this later.

Oh well. Off we go to begin plans for the next venture -- a mammoth wargame to celebrate the 900th Anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.

Tip

Tip for A.C.W. buffs: Lots and lots of inexpensive material from the Department of Documents, Washington D.C. I have obtained two big colour pictures on ACW and Indian war engagements which I am going to put up in Wargames Rooms. Cost just 20 cents each. Write for list of publications available under American History.
