New Products 1964

by Don Featherstone

Not so many new item's this month but enough to be interesting. Have seen one of the 20mm figures put out by Agnel Comes Plascencia, Colle del Maestro Lope No.7., Burjasot, Valencia, Spain. Their range is apparently limitless and prices seem to be 4 foot for 60ps (7/6d) and 4 cavalry for 75ps. They are HO (1/86th) scale and will NOT fit in with many other 20mm scaled figures, being considerably smaller, This organisation also produces a well bound and coloured catalogue of all their models for 75 pesetas (8/11d).

A home plastic moulding outfit of an injection-type using a polypropylene plastic with a low melting point is being marketed by.fha d Valley Games in a month or so. If you write for details mention this magazine - it is American and, in the States is put out by Kenner Products Company of 912, Sycamore Street, Cincinnati 2, Ohio at a basic price of $15. There are dies available for some 50 types of soldiers, jeeps, guns and so on but their scale is not known at the moment.

Those wargamers who find fascination in building up the buildings and terrains over which they fight should be familiar with the great range of model railway type scenic products put out or retailed by Adur Valley Press Ltd of John Street, Shoreham, Sussex, England. Catalogues rill be bent on receipt of a large stamped addressed envelope. Adur tell me that they have heard of some 17th century cannon of about 7mm to the foot that might be imported, they are also possibly stocking Priezer soldiers from the Continent, I believe that these are 20mm but do not 1.-now any more details. Wiad, Kibri, Faller and all the other well-known Continental makers of scenic materals are stocked by Adur and a contact is recommended.

Further to the Many enquiries I have had about the 20mm modern vehicles made by DBGM (Rocco) which I said in last month's Newsletter could be obtained from a Danish firm. It seems that Adur also stock these items -- their list looks as though they get them via the Associated Hobby Manufacturers of Philadelphia.

A new venture by Jack Scruby of Californial the well known American model soldier makers is that of wargames figures ih 40mm scale. This is a size that, has been said to hold the balance between the fully detailed 54mm figure and the lesser elaborate 30mm wargames figure. It is claimed by its adherents that it enables the figures themselves to hold a, table-top personality lacking in 30 and 20mm sizes, Jack has put out a considerable of figures in many periods and they sell for 65 cents for a single figure or $3 for a set of six figures with further reduct.ions for teit figures, Write Jack at 2044 South Linwood Avenuef Visalia, California, USA for details.

I was reminded at the Convention that Russell Gammage of Rose Figures in London holds a variety of Napoleonic wargames figures in the 1" scale -- although Peter Gilder finds that it is possible to easily use them with his 20mm figures of other makes. These are high class figures and well worth investigation by the newcomer to the hobby.

Dr. Ralph Bussler of USA tells me that he does not make the 1" wargames figures now - I mentioned them a couple of months ago -- but that he has a number of them in stock (American Civil War) that he would like to dispose of,. The address is Box 107 Wollaston, Ma.ss. 02170., USA.

I have recently received copies of a very full and informative_ bulletin put out by the Scottish Group of Model Soldier Collectors. Called THE DESPATCH it can be obtained from Cominander Ian Hamilton (RTl);, Kilbride Croft, Balvicar, Isle of Seil,. By Oban Argyll, Sobtland at the cost of 6/- (about $1), per annum. It is hoped that some sort of reciporcal arrangement between this paper and the Despatch can be worked out because I have found many items contained in its pages that I had not seen elsewhere.

Another publication that ought to be read by all interested in' wargames and military matters is SOLDIER' magazine - price one shilling monthly from the bookstalls. This contains all that is new about the British Army and has a leavening of historical matters, book reviews etc that make it of interest to all wargamers.
