Must List

New Products 1964

Have just heard that Airfix will be putting on market within the next week or so a box of Bedouin drabs to act us opponents to their French Foreign Legion box. I suppose the cry will now be: "I wonder if those Arabs will convert into Civil War cavalry?"

The first noteworthy item this month must be, without any doubt, the new military magazine that has been put out by Norman Newton's(actually listed under Belmont-Maitland Publishers Ltd of 44 Dover Street, Piccadilly, London,). There has long been a real need for a regular magazine dealing: with military matters, a mo-nthly 'glossy' such a.s those put, out by the model railway enthusiasts. In "TRADITION" this need has been answered and, believe me, this one is really glossy:

Unfortunately, it is also a bit 'glossy' in price but when one looks through it, notes the quality of the turn-out and the profusion of highly detailed coloured plates, then the price of 10/6d per bi-monthly issue (3.6.0 or $10.50 per annum) seems justified. It has something for everyone, the wargamer, the collector par excellence, the military antiquarian and just the common or garden military-minded man. This is a MUST!

Airfix have turned out another type of 20mm figures to add to their rapidly increasing range - this time it is Russian infantry of WWII - including a long-felt need - a mortar and team. Rumour has it that there are others to follow, including one range of cavalry that everyone has been crying for! Airfix has also put out an addition to their range of armoured fighting vehicles. This time it is the famed 'TIGER' tank - a very fine model that will take its worthy place on many a modernists war games table.

Arthur Johnston, the military bookseller of 1 Telstor_ Close, Bourne Lnd, Bucks has sent me a leaflet of books- by Major R. Money Barnes, including his latest 'The Soldiers of London' - it looks good. There are others named of equal interest - hear also that John.G.Garratt who wrote that 'bible' MODEL SOLDIERS, is working on yet another one, this is eagerly waited by all of us!

Shamus.O.D. Wade, who runs a stall in Portobello road Market in east London has sent me a list (free on application to all) in which he lists various secondhand figures he has for sale. Of particular interest to readers of this magazine are the 1" Groves and Benoy figures of the British Infantry of the Peninsula at 1/7d each. Shamus also occasionally has other items that can be useful to the wargamer and a letter or visit is strongly recommended. Shamus will do postal deals in this country only.

I am told that the 'Bell of Arms Ltd' Grosvenor House, Gillingham, Dorset do a good range of military items, including 30mm plastic wargames figures (made by Spencer Smith). Drop a line to them asking for catalogue ' Cornwallis' and mention this mag.

Hear from John Greenwooau that Leonard Cottrell's wonderful story of Hannibal entitled 'Enemy of Rome' is on sale in paperback at 3/6d (Pan Books). And Newell Chamberlin mentions a fine plastic 54mm figure produced in France that he is painting up - sounds like one of those that you put together yourself.
