Light Infantry Developed

A significant tactical development of the 18th century was the organisation and employment of light infantry, first coming to the fore during the War of the Austrian Succession when the Austro-Hungarian commanders had to adapt the border skirmishing with the Turks of the Hungarian Light Infantry to suit the style of fighting against the Prussians and the French. Later in the century, the style of Light Infantry fighting was more clearly defined during the Wars in the American Colonies.
