I may be teaching my grandmother or mouthing heresies, but in "War Games" you mention the problems of weight, etc., for sand tables (especially dampened ones). For my own 8, x 41 table I use sawdust, which can be compacted by hand pressure on the table without the use of water, and is much lighter than sand.
