Terrain and Airfix Conversions

Hint of the Month

by Peter Bartlam

The first is an easy way to make hedges, fields, etc. This is done by taking carpet underlay, the type that is green felt on top of rubber. You cut the underlay into long thin strips and then pull and fluff up the felt to the required height. I also find the felt untouched makes realistic grasslands especially hills. Of course, if any of the rubber shows through it just looks like earth.

The second is a simple Airfix conversion to get the winter-cloak idea of the Russian campaign World War II. I used Arabs painted white with suitable equipment and also their cloaked heads on Russian bodies.
