What was the only European dynasty to ever rule its empire from the New World? Answer: The Braganzas of Portugal. Taken to the New World by the British Navy after the French invasion of the Peninsula, they ruled temporarily from Brazil! Pedro II, brought up there, did not want to return to Europe when the return from exile became possible.
