Queen of Prussia Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was so attractive that she captivated the attention of many, including Napoleon himself--"Lord, how beautiful she looked...I would have given one of my ears to stay with her as long as the Emperor did (Coignet). Since her mind was also developed, she was able to conduct diplomacy and other affairs for her country. The king, her husband, was wise enough to allow her into the man's world of politics and statecraft, and she was able to engage herself openly where most women had to act behind the scenes.
