Guten Tag, Mein Herren! This newsletter will be published a few times before the battle, to encourage you to make the most of your pregame internet link by establishing a little team spirit. For example, you might want to introduce yourself, note who you are playing, and mention why you chose the nationality you did. And feel free to get into your role by a little role playing. You can write your own opinions, press releases, character proflies, etc. Thanks to onelist, they then get sent to the rest of your team. I'll be chiming in with some Napoleonic trivia, related modern hobby notes, and who knows--may a subtle playing clue or two sent indirectly from the Divine Power Himself (Game Master Fred). Congratulations to the Prussians for being the first to organize. Gott Mit Uns! A Shaky Alliance At Best At the simultaneous opening encounters at Quatre Bras and Ligny, both English and Prussians knew only that they themselves had suffered terribly, and wondered where the other guy was. In fact the Prussians were ready to withdraw East to German territory and forget the whole thing! It was only "Grandfather" Blutcher, rallying himself from having a horse shot out from under him, who insisted on marching West. Could history have been different? You bet! The question for this campaign then is: can the English be trusted, or might they decide to gain their own victory points and then take off, leaving us in the lurch. Let's keep an eye on them... Inspiration Karl der Grosse. Charlemagne. Charles The Great. A name that rings down the corridors of the ages to us today! Our sacred ancestor was the creator of the Holy Roman Empire. bb bringing Christ into the state, he purified us to enjoy our traditional German liberties. Just as only the ancient free Germanic tribes could hold off the old pagan Roman Empire, and crush their legions in the dark forests, so now the call comes down to us. Left alone in our own Kingdom, Duchy, or Principality, we enjoyed our historic way of life undisturbed. Now today a new "Southern Empire" advances again with its legions and eagles to trample us into the dust. But no illegitimate AntiChrist can move us to betray ourselves. We have learned his ways from the last time he came our way and yes, beat us down. But we have faith. And as Martin Luther once said: "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God!" Rise up, Prussians! Rise up Hanoverians, Brunswickers, Dutch, and Belgians, and all the rest. Finally, let the Anglo-Saxons set forth upon their ships from the Island of the Mighty, to take their place also in our brotherhood. To Paris! Death to Bonaparte!
