Waterloo 1815 '99

by Fred Hubig, 1815 Gamemaster

Ladies and Gentlemen of Campaign '99: It is a pleasure to bring our next project, the glorious Campaign of 1815, to life once again. With your love of history and wargaming plus the Fire and Fury rules adaption that we will use, you will receive a unique gaming experience at the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School. The Campaign of 1815 will combine the strategical movement of massive armies with tactical engagements in a smooth, fast playing series of battles that will bring the campaign to a conclusion within the timeframe of our June 11-13th weekend.

The Emperor Napoleon I will be played by Kevin Combs of Columbia, Maryland. Kevin was one of the key French players in last year's Campaign 1815. He has several grey bearded veterans of past campaigns already signed up, but is looking for a few good men to complete leadership positions with the Armee du Nord.

Sir Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, is personified by Dr. Norbert Brunhuber, another veteran of our Campaign Series. For those of you who enjoy attention to detail and a well run staff organization to direct your bold attacks and maneuvers, the Allied Army is for you.

Not long ago, I received a brief message from one of the Prussian commanders. It said: "Vee are vating fur der orders." The Prussians are being played by the Northern Conspiracy Wargamers, who have taken the campaign on as a club activity. They are chomping on the bit and ably led by Ralph Gero, as Feldmarschal Gebhardt von Blucher. There might be a position or two still available for you if you are a die hard Prussian.

One of the hobby's grognards, Jim Birdseye, assisted by Charley Elsden, will be controlling the strategical part of the program. The M.O. will be a little different from that which those of you who participated observed at the Gettysburg Event. The strategical game is based on Columbia Games' Napoleon. Jim will focus more on the friction caused by weather, unit exhaustion, personality and mission conflicts, etc. to add to the Fog so necessary for...pure chaos.

Pete and Jodie are handling the Mission Control tasks with their usual great generosity, sense of fairness, and responsibility, efficiency, and good humor. The after action reports from participants indicates that every Campaign Event has been an improvement over the previous one. You can't ask for more than that.

The Tactical umpire staff will include Captain Mike Pierce (one of the original Fire and Fury developers) and an experienced staff made up of Mike Lorenzo, Bert Carney, Lou Cardinale, Mark Zaslavsky, and Bob Kerstetter.

The Napoleonic rules adaptation is a fairly hefty item. When you sign up to take the Queen's shilling, the King's pfennig, or or the Emperor's franc, we will send a copy to you. In the meantime, haul out your copy of Fire and Fury and get reacquainted with the basics. Needless to say, there are some minor departures from Civil War. However, I have played the Napoleonic adaption many times and it really flows.

Get hold of Jodie and sign up now. I look forward to seeing you at Waterloo '99. All the best,
