French Introduction

Waterloo '99

by Charley Elsden

Bonjour, Messieurs! This newsletter will be published a few times before the battle, to encourage you to make the most of your pregame internet link by establishing a little team spirit, n'est-ce pas? For example, you might want to introduce yourself, note who you are playing, and mention why you chose the nationality you did. And feel free to get into your role by role playing. You can write your own opinions, press releases, character profiles, etc. Thanks to onelist, they then get sent to the whole team.

Congratulations to the French on the return of our Guiding Star. Vive L'Empreur!

The Return of the Man

Here is how Paris newspaper headlines reflected the landing of Napoleon in the South of France during his recent return, and his pnenomenal progress up the nation while reconsolidating his power among us. At the beginning, of course, our "patriotic" editors reflected their loyalty to the King who sat on the throne.

    THE CORSICAN MONSTER HAS LANDED!
    THE BEAST BUONAPARTE APPROACHES!
YET ANOTHER ARMY SUBMITS TO NAPOLEON!
THE EXILE NOW ONLY 100 MILES FROM PARIS!
    THE EMPEROR HAS ARRIVED!
    HIS MAJESTY ENTERS THE CITY!

After we hang all the lawyers, let's guillotine all the (civilian) editors!

The French People rally to the Emperor, with cries of "Down with the priests! Down with the nobles! Death to the Royalists! Bourbons to the scaffold!" Since his return, many steps have been taken to defend The Empire. We approach the coming military campaign with that old familiar tingle of anticipation. Vive L'Empereur!"
