BPA News

August 2001

by Don Greenwood

Congratulations to Kathy Stroh, Bruce Reiff, and John Pack who have been elected to the BPA Board of Directors for three-year terms commencing now. More details on the election and the new Board members is posted on our site at http://www.boardgamers.org/board/boardpag.htm. This election completes the process of replacing the Incorporator's original appointees with duly elected members.

The Patrons list at the website has also been updated to add those members of Charter level or higher who renewed after this year's program was printed. Since the printed list is always obsolete before the ink dries due to late memberships, we will be publishing the patron list of the previous year henceforth to generate a more complete listing. If you think you should be on the list, please take a moment to review it at http://www.boardgamers.org/bpamembs.htm and notify us of any errors or omissions.

PBeM WAR AT SEA ENDS SECOND TOURNAMENT: Ed Menzel has won the second BPA War At Sea PBeM Tournament. Ed defeated a field of 39 players in single elimination competition. More details on the just concluded tournament can be found at http://www.bright.net/~monninb/war_at_sea.htm.

The third BPA War AtSea PBeM tournament will be organized shortly, with October 1st being the targeted start date. The format will be changed from single elimination to the same format used at the WBC, a five round Swiss competition with the top four players advancing into the single elimination quarterfinals. Check it out at http://www.bright.net/~monninb/war_at_sea_2001.htm.

PBeM TRC: The third THE RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN PBeM tournament will start on September 1st. The game length will again be 10 turns. Bidding will be progressive with the lower seed of each match submitting the first bid. Other then that the rules and format will be the same as found at http://www.russiancampaign.com . Check it out. TRC has been very successful at adhering to an annual schedule for its tournaments so those afraid of a lifelong commitment need not fear.
