Convention Report
CT (USA)

by Russ Lockwood

The CGC convention, held at the Quality Inn off Rte 15 in New Haven, CT, attracted about 100 or so history buffs and gamers on October 27-29. This is the second year that the convention has been in the autumn rather than its cold-weather time in January. It's also about half the attendence of the winter show. Whether this has to do with the time of year or the September 11 tragedy can be debated. What cannot be debated is the enthusiasm of the attendees as they wargamed, boardgamed, and battled through various eras and with a wide variety of gaming systems.

In front of the MagWeb.com booth was a magnificent WWII burned out city in 54mm. I saw a big game of Under Fire (available from Tactical Conflict Systems), including several kids. Also in front of me was a Japanese Samurai fantasy game put on by DJD Miniatures--a study of Japanese mythology indeed. The WRG 7th (or is it Warrior, now) tournament was in full swing at the end of the hotel. Pete Panzeri's Alamo game was roaring in the other room, along with William Keyser's From Valmy to Waterloo game and a WWII game. Several boardgames were also attracting attention, some I recognized (Axis and Allies, for example), and some I did not. Of course, there were many other games I did not see, so my apologies for not mentioning them.

The dealer area included MagWeb.com, DJD Miniatures, Tactical Conflict Systems, Silver Eagle Wargames, On Military Matters (books), Fathers and Sons games, Simtac, Lione Rampant (live action role-playing), Two Tin Soldiers, and Belle and Blade (videos and T-shirts).

Kudos to Phil, Lou, and the rest of the CGC for putting on another good convention. MagWeb.com is pleased to support their efforts.
