Yes, the title of this article is a bit of a pun, because I'm gonna give you a bit of a preview of the next set. The Revelations set is the climax of the first two- year Doomtown story arc. It sets the stage for the final battle between Austin Stoker and the forces of reasonable Good, and Knicknevin's legions of downright Evil. Gathered at Lord Grimely's Manor, where the mother lode (a.k.a the Mouth of Hell) sits, Gomorra townsfolk and nameless horrors gather for battle. As befits a set named for the last book of the Bible, the Revelations set is-how shall I put it-a big set. Not big as in three hundred cards, but big as in game-rocking effects. With cards like Battle for Lord Grimely's, Wrath of God, Stoker versus Knicknevin, and The End Is Nigh, you know major things are happening in Gomorra, and the card effects show that. This is the big one; just take a look at the Kingdom Come tourney column on page 9 for the Revelations story. The three decks in the Revelations set, as veteran players have already figured out, are the Blackjacks, the Maze Rats, and the Sioux Union. The fixed cards are Black Jack, Harold Longfellow, and Joseph Eyes-Like-Rain. Also, each deck contains a copy of Eye of the Storm, which was previewed last issue. The Revelations set has two groups of therned cards drawn from the Book of Revelations: the Seven Bowls and the Five Marks. There are also various Bullet cards, which are just cool.
The Seven Bowls are Miracles drawn from
Revelations chapter 16, wherein seven Angels pour out the
contents of seven bowls to torment the Earth. The game
impact of the cards is directly keyed to the quoted passages
in the Bible (verses 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 12, and 17, if you want to
look them up). The effects of each Bowl get bigger and
badder as the number increases. Look out for number seven.
Four of the Marks are Hexes taken from thi abilities of
the Four Horsemen, while the fifth Mark is an Action card
for mortals. Aga the abilities are draw from the quoted
portions of Revelations, though this time from chapter 6. And
the Mark of Man? Heck, we needed to give the little mortals
a fightin' chance.
Bullets are Item cards that put a whole
new spin on shootouts.
There are a whole
variety of Bullets keyed
to certain individuals. But
don't worry, there are
actions and Reactions
that target Bullets as
well. Nothin's ever fer
sure in Gomorra.
The Revelations expansion includes a number of cards based on storyline tournaments. The Experienced Humphrey Walters reveals his true colors as determined by the Madman's Secret global storyline tournament. Arizona Jane casts her lot with an Outfit, as was decided at last year's Winter Fantasy tournament. And, finally, we get Killer Kerry, our 1998 Gen Con Doomtown Most Wanted champ, immortalized as a Dude card.
