What's New

by Edward Bolme, Brand Manager

Howdy, y'all.

It's been a long time, too long, since an Epitaph has appeared for our fine game. The first one was printed back in the summer of '98, and a whole lot has happened since then.

Ryan Dancey is no longer heading Five Rings Publishing Group; he has transferred to TSR, taking Scott Magner, our fan club coordinator, with him. Luke Peterschmidt is no longer managing Doomtown; that job has now fallen to me. Dave Williams was gunned down in the streets of Los Angeles, but he rose from the grave, and now a manitou is designing the game. In the midst of these changes, one of the items that fell through the cracks was this here newsletter.

Since the first newsletter came out so long ago, and since it didn't have an exclusive card, I've decided not to count it against any subscriptions. This means that no matter when you signed up, this is effectively your first issue. And to make sure we make a good first impression, I've gone ahead and included two cards this issue, as well as a cool new Rob Vaux fiction piece. "Start Again" is an exclusive fan club card and "Eye of the Storm" is a preview of an upcoming card.

Pine Box Edition, the basic set, appeared in March. It, along with Shootout at High Noon, helped bring new players into the fold. In May, the Mouth of Hell expansion appeared, driving the story towards its conclusion. (By the way, Mouth of Hell boosters are sold out) This was tied in to the Madman's Secret global storyline tournament, which did very well for all.

The Quickdraw League, an in-store play environment also began in May. The Blackjacks season sold out immediately; and the league grew with the start of the Law Dogs season. It's sure to create quite an impression. Keep your sixguns well oiled.

FRPG tournaments, both regular and premiere, are now being sanctioned and administered by the DCI. The first premiere storyline tournament was the aforementioned Madman's Secret. The next one, Kingdom Come, takes place over Halloween weekend. You'll want to be there!

We have new stuff in Perry's Pawnshop; go and check it out. And we're working on even better items all the time.

here are a lot of great things in the future for Doomtown. August brings the Reaping of Souls Expansion, and October the expansion named Revelations. Origins, DragonCon, and GenCon all have storyline tournaments so you can influence the fate of Gomorra.

One final tidbit: due to a production error, Jack's Left Shooter never made it into Doomtown Episode 9; instead, Jack's Right Shooter appeared twice. Much to my dismay, this error was not caught, and people purchased extra packs of that release in a vain attempt to find the card. To make up for this, we are running Jack's Left Shooter in the promo slots of the Mouth of Hell print run, and we'll exchange it for copies of the Right Shooter. Send your Right Shooters in, using the address for the pawnshop, and mark the envelope "Jack's Shooter."

Thanks, and talk to you next issue.
