The Philippines:
An Afternoon’s Fictional Scenario

Wargaming WWII

By Alex Webb

Game set up ; US/Australian invasion. Invaders start North. Defenders start South

The map is 8 squares by 6 which equates to 16ft by 12ft. I would not expect more than 1-3 thrusts per side.

Invaders can have ship to shore bombardment but will only fall within the top half of the map squares.

Either battleship, and destroyer  or 2 cruisers
Destroyer 4", Cruiser 6" and 8" battleship 12" and 4"
BB fire main gun only every other turn.
Naval FOO, 1 round pre game bombardment and may nominate one mapped target where fire may be brought in throughout the game.

There are objectives worth variable points. The side holding the most objectives at the end wins.

Manila at the bottom and the central airfield are the areas worth the most points but it is possible to win without taking either of these objectives.

No planes as assume busy fighting each other.

Attacker
Artillery 450 points plus ships
Armour  450 points
Infantry 1200 points (This can include Paras)
Landing craft if required free.
Some troops start ashore

Defender
Artillery 300 points
Armour 300 points
Infantry 800 points
Defence works only in the north have 200 pre placed
Aifields open area 1 building
Towns areas represented by 3 medium buildings.
